THE CLASSIC CENTER

The Classic Center is a cultural and convention facility located in downtown Athens, Georgia consisting of a 2,100 seat performing arts hall, 18,000 square feet of banquet and meeting space, and a 30,000 square foot exhibition hall.  The entire complex has been sensitively organized around the Historic Firehall #1, which has been preserved and renovated into the premier meeting space of the facility.  The elegant façade of the Classic Center was carefully designed to be compatible with many of the historic and older structures of downtown Athens. The Performing Arts hall has been set back from the street in line with the Firehall so that the scale of the new building would not overwhelm the Firehall. The meeting and exhibition spaces are scaled appropriately and positioned adjacent to the street in a fashion that is compatible with the urban context.
